Nicaragua

Traveling

Nicaragua, unica… original! That’s the official tourism slogan by the country and they are right! It’s a bit slow and it feels like the time stopped for a bit! Nature and beaches to die for, heartwarming people, colourful sun-drenched colonial cities and the island Ometepe which is home of two volcanoes. After several decades of civil war and political strife, this country is slowly repairing itself. In comparison to neighbouring Costa Rica, it's cheaper and much more 'off-the-beaten track', making it ideal for a backpacking trip. Nicaragua is known within the surf community for its consistent waves and offshore winds blow across lake Nicaragua and groom the waves to perfection. With a local population as mix of Nicaraguans and a growing ex-patriot community, especially in San Juan del Sur, the beach is a place of gatherings, laughter and connection.
